PBPA Mourns Passing of Wayne Huey

Wayne Huey

Taken from Wayne’s obituary:

It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne R. Huey, 74, announces his passing on June 21, 2018. The son of Wayne Sr. and Dorothy (Leas), Wayne was born and raised in Reading, PA and resided in Malvern, PA and Bonita Springs, FL.

Growing up, Wayne attended Schuylkill Valley High School and was an amazing athlete, winning the 1961 and 1962 PIAA State Track and Field Championship in the long jump. After graduating from Penn State University in 1966 with a degree in Industrial Engineering, Wayne began a long and successful career in banking in Pittsburgh at Mellon Bank, in Reading with American Bank, in Allentown as President of First National Bank of Allentown, in Reading as Executive VP Meridian Bank and Head of Commercial Banking. In Philadelphia, Wayne served as Executive VP and Chief Administrative Officer of Core States and later as Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Millennium Bank.

Wayne was especially proud of the work he did as an officer and member of various boards of directors of local non-profit organizations. He chaired the United Way Fund drive for Lehigh County, coordinated the fundraising for and implementation of a transitional housing unit for the YMCA in Reading, and served as the Chairman of the Foundation Board of the Paoli Hospital, where he co-chaired fundraising efforts to build the new Patient Care Pavilion at Paoli Hospital.

While Wayne loved his work, he continued to display athletic prowess throughout his life. His love of golf was well known to everyone who knew him, and throughout the years Wayne was a member of Berkshire Country Club in Reading, Lehigh Country Club in Allentown, Stonewall Golf Club in Elverson, Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square and was currently a member of Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern, PA, and Shadow Wood Country Club in Bonita Springs, FL. He was particularly proud of his five holes-in-one—each on a different course.

In his free time, Wayne loved to read, do puzzles of all sorts, and get down on the floor and play with his much-adored grandchildren. He will be remembered for his warm and kind personality, keen intellect, sharp wit and outstanding character.

Wayne leaves behind his beloved wife of 23 years, Judy (DiSerafino), daughter Kristyn Lederer of Bucks County, PA, daughter-in-law Kris Huey of Royersford PA, and step-sons Miles Bower (Jen) of San Diego, CA and Chase Bower (Rachel) of Philadelphia, PA. Wayne is also survived by grandchildren Caleb, Zane, Mila, Annika, Ridge, Eleanor, Sierra, Grant and Ryder. He is also survived by sisters Karen Lee and Marcia McGavisk, both of Berks County, PA. Wayne was predeceased by his son, Derek.

Friends and family are invited to remember Wayne at a gathering in his honor from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Paoli Hospital Foundation, 255 W. Lancaster Avenue, Paoli, PA 19301.
